Women's Sexual Health
Just like men, women also require good overall health to enjoy good sexual health.
The degradation of a woman's overall health can lead to a deficient sexual health state, resulting in various dysfunctions that impact quality of life.
Female sexual dysfunctions prevent women from experiencing pleasure and satisfaction during sexual intercourse. This can be due to health conditions and lifestyle factors (such as diabetes, heart disease, alcoholism, and others), psychological factors (like low self-esteem), social factors (such as strict upbringing, which may lead to limiting beliefs regarding sexuality and intimacy), or the use of certain substances (for example, excessive use of hypnotic sedatives).
Menopause is also a phase associated with female sexual dysfunction, as it signals the end of a woman’s fertile period, leading to hormonal changes, including the reduction of testosterone. Despite being a male hormone, testosterone also circulates in a woman's body and is related to female libido.
The most common female sexual dysfunctions include:
-
Anorgasmia (difficulty achieving orgasm)
-
Vaginismus (involuntary contraction of the muscles around the vagina, causing pain)
-
Dyspareunia (pain during sexual intercourse)
-
Lack of sexual desire (decreased libido)
